The Story

The Woman Who Looks Beyond

“Created in uncertainty. Shaped by hope.”

When the COVID-19 pandemic emerged in early 2020, the world came to an abrupt halt. Businesses closed, streets emptied, and millions faced an uncertain future. Like countless artists, Paraguayan ceramist Carolina Noguera found herself confronting fear, isolation, and unanswered questions.

Rather than surrendering to uncertainty, she turned to clay.

As she worked, something unexpected happened. The neck of the figure continued to grow. Longer. And longer. One of her daughters eventually asked:

“What are you doing?”

Carolina answered without hesitation:

“I’m making The Woman Who Looks Beyond. And that woman is me.”

The elongated neck was never planned as a stylistic feature. It emerged naturally from the artist’s emotional state—a physical expression of someone trying to see beyond fear, beyond confinement, and beyond the unknown horizon that the pandemic had created.
